About the Orchards…
We source excellent quality fruit from family farms that we think are doing a good job growing fruit in our challenging climate.
Finger Lakes Fruit Bowl includes organic and non-organic fruit. We try to source as much organic fruit as possible (especially strawberries & apples) but some of our partners use IPM* (integrated pest management) so they may resort to pesticides when necessary. Stone fruits are particularly hard to grow organically.
-
APPLETON, NY. Bittner Singer uses IPM for most crops (cherries, apricots, peaches, plums, pears and apples) with real attention toward minimizing pesticide use. They also offer some organic apples!
-
INTERLAKEN, NY. Black Diamond uses IPM in their apple orchards
-
ITHACA, NY. A backyard orchard down the road from our farm!
-
PULASKI, NY. Grindstone grows certified organic blueberries
-
HOLLEY, NY. Hurd Orchard is a an eco-certified family farm growing apples, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, peaches, plums and more! They are working toward a NOFA NY Organic certification but are not currently certified organic.
-
ITHACA, NY. Jackman Vineyard provides organically grown (but not certified organic) apples & fresh pressed apple cider plus peaches and nectarines grown using IPM
-
WILLIAMSON, NY. A 5th generation family farm using USDA organic guidelines and working toward Organic certification for their blueberries
-
HECTOR, NY. Doyle Vineyards practices IPM
-
INTERLAKEN, NY. Certified Organic melons
-
BALDWINSVILLE, NY. Reeve’s offers both organic and conventional strawberries and blueberries. We’ll always choose organic when available!
-
ITHACA, NY. Stick and Stone grows organic strawberries, watermelon and some apples (and many veggies too!)
-
BROOKTONDALE, NY. Integrated pest management with a focus on biodiversity, tree and soil health, and resource conservation practices
-
According to the University of California “Integrated Pest Management is an ecosystem-based strategy that focuses on long-term prevention of pests or their damage through a combination of techniques such as biological control, habitat manipulation, modification of cultural practices, and use of resistant varieties. Pesticides are used only after monitoring indicates they are needed according to established guidelines…Pest control materials are selected and applied in a manner that minimizes risks to human health, beneficial and non-target organisms, and the environment.”
